At the 2020 AAU National Championships, a potential new star in the mold of Taylor Ewert emerged. Isabella Edwards, a home schooled athlete from Leander, TX, competed in her 1st Race Walk event, winning the Girls 3000 Meter Race Walk 15-16 years old in a time of 19:51.74.

While the debut time is not earth shattering, it is a solid performance in a year where training and competition has been changed because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The exciting info comes when looking at Isabella’s athlete profile. In it, you’ll find a very good athlete for her age and a wide range of skills across multiple events. This bodes well for her ability to generate interest from NAIA coaches looking for an athlete who can contribute in multiple events when they recruit from the class of 2023.

The takeaway? Runners can be good Race Walkers & Race Walkers can be good Runners. Plus, some have abilities in Field Events too. Coaches need to look for multi-skilled athletes and encourage serious attempts at doing all events in the sport of T&F.
